Many businesses, restaurants, or stores often have cameras inside watching guests and employees to ensure safety of doors, busy areas, etc. What about outside? Have you had issues with things going on in the parking lot or around your building and wished you had eyes out there as well? Outdoor cameras are just as important to keep a company safe, with that being said, where do you place them? Keep reading for easy tips and tricks!

While entry/exit doors are the most common place to have a camera, corners, sides of the building and parking lots are also important areas to protect, as they can sometimes be known as blind spots. Whether it be to watch for door dings, accidents, theft, or solicitation, we cannot overlook these details.

Where should you place them?

  • Somewhere visible: While you may think hiding them or camouflaging them is a good idea to match the aesthetics of the building, keeping them visible can deter those with bad intentions, when they see them they will know there will be evidence. Thus, preventing them from going further with any negative actions they were planning.
  • Somewhere with good lighting: While not every angle is going to always be sunny or well lit, the best views will come from those that are clear and bright. If there is a dark or gloomy area you need covered, there are options for spotlights or motion lights to turn on when someone or something approaches.
  • Somewhere high and with a wide view: Be sure to place the cameras high enough so while they are visible, they cannot be tampered with or taken down by someone on the street. The wide view will help to ensure that something does not get passed its view.

Offices or buildings are typically easier to place cameras as they can be mounted and connected through wires to the buildings power, internet and other stable connections. However, construction sites can be just as easy to secure even though they might be over looked often. One popular solution is to have a solar panel powered trailer nearby that will provide the needed connectivity to run the cameras, alarms, and/or sirens.
